Bio: Steve Whitener has an eclectic
wealth of experience in secondary education, government and non-profit public
policy-oriented organizations. He has taught social studies courses for
Calvin Christian High School in Escondido since 2003. Among the courses he
teaches are American Government, Economics, World History, Sociology, World
War II, Modern History, Speech, and Current Issues. He is also an adjunct instructor in political
science for Providence Christian College. Prior to joining the
Calvin Christian faculty he taught for the Fairfax Christian School in
Fairfax County, Virginia (a suburb of Washington, DC).
He has developed curriculum and taught a variety of social science classes in
secondary schools, organized public policy conferences, developed training
programs for college students, managed college intern programs, written and
managed direct mail marketing programs, and been employed in responsible
positions at each level of American government: local, state and federal.
He has developed curriculum and taught in private Christian secondary
education for eight years, taking time to serve on the Loudoun County (Va.)
Board of Supervisors and as legislative staff for the Virginia General
Assembly. From July 1999 to June 2001, he served as Chief of Staff to member
of the Virginia General Assembly. From 1992-1999, Steve Whitener served on
the Loudoun County (Virginia) Board of Supervisors. He previously
served as a trustee of the Loudoun County Public Library Board and as a
Commissioner for the Northern Virginia Regional District Planning Commission. In 1992, Mr. Whitener was elected a Republican Presidential Elector for the Tenth Congressional District of Virginia. Subsequently his fellow electors elected him President of the Presidential Electoral College of Virginia. In 1986-87, he served in the Reagan Administration, working for the federal Legal Services Corporation and the U.S. Department of Education. A native Californian, Steve Whitener earned his BA degree in public administration from San Diego State University and his masters degree in business administration from National University (San Diego). He has spoken before a variety of groups and organizations including The Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies; The American University; Political officials from the Republic of Tadjikistan; political and business leaders in Jining, People’s Republic of China; The Conservative Leadership Conference and before numerous school, church and civic organizations. Mr. Whitener’s awards and honors include the 1989 Outstanding Public Service Award from Young Americans for Freedom, 1998 Certificate of Recognition for Service during the Cold War from the U.S. Department of Defense, and a listing in the Heritage Foundation’s (Washington, DC) Guide to Public Policy Experts. Steve Whitener has
traveled to over 35 countries of the world, most recently to Turkey, Japan,
