Eighth grade Bible students study the New Testament.   The students begin by studying the gospels, which witness the good news to convert unbelievers and build up believers’ faith.  Through the gospel of Mark, the students realize that the people of Jesus’ day did not understand Jesus or his authority.  He collides with the elders’ traditions and the peoples’ expectations for the Messiah.  During Jesus’ suffering on his last week on earth, Jesus’ words and actions identify him as the Messiah.  Allowing the Jews to arrest him, and the Romans to crucify him, Jesus fulfills the Messianic prophecies and establishes a new covenant.

The Holy Spirit empowers the disciples to share the good news of Jesus’ Kingdom at Pentecost.  Despite persecution and opposition from Jewish leaders, the disciples spread the gospel to both Jews and Gentiles.

Through the book of Acts, the students learn that Paul, God’s chosen apostle to the Gentiles, and his fellow workers establish churches throughout the world.  Paul makes three missionary journeys through Galatia, Asia Minor, and Macedonia.  This brings the gospel to eastern Europe (Greece).  Paul also writes letters to fight the Judaizers’ influence and to fight strengthen believers’ faith.

The Book to the Hebrews and the apostle John are epistles to encourage the church, refuting false teaching and pointing to Jesus alone as the way of salvation.  The New Testament closes with the assurance of God’s ultimate victory over Satan as the apocalyptic book, Revelation, is studied.
