In Ancient China, Second Century B.C., the Emperor Qin built for
himself a 24-square mile burial complex in Xi'an. This complex
was discovered only in the 1970s and is known to archeologists
as the Terra Cotta Warriors, the "Eighth Wonder of the World.
The Terra Cotta Warriors exhibit is a collection of hundreds of
life-size statues of Chinese warriors, generals, acrobats,
animals, miniature horses, chariots, and armor, all individually
handcrafted in terra cotta clay, iron, and bronze. The exhibit
contained less than 1% of the number of antiquities that remain
in China. On September 16, 2008, 54 World History students,
three brave parents and World History teacher Steve Whitener
traveled to Orange County's Bower's museum to view this amazing
exhibit. Greeting students was a staff member of the museum
costumed as one of the Terra Cotta Warriors.
