At
the beginning of each school year all the high school students
go off-campus to play games, get to know each other better and grow in their faith as part of
the "mixer".
It's called the "mixer" because students are randomly put on
different teams, and then the teams compete against each other
in games and spirit competitions. Dressing up outrageously
according to team names is part of the mixer tradition.
In addition to playing games, students spent time singing praise
songs and growing in their faith with the help of a guest
speaker. This year's speaker was Calvin alum Dave Nichols, youth
pastor at Mission Hills Church in San Marcos. Groups were given time to talk about how to apply the
message to their lives, and time was also allocated for students
to pray individually.
