Calvin Students and Parents Visit the
Louvre

Mr. Whitener organized a wonderful vacation in France for
several students and some parents this summer. Here are some

Leave LAX at 6:30 pm on Air France flight #69
Tuesday, June 10th
Arrive Paris Charles de Gaulle airport at 2 pm Clear passport
control/customs Transfer to our hotel: Les Jardins d’Eiffel (8,
rue Amélie in the 7th) Bateaux-Mouche cruise on the River Seine
(dusk) Dinner at Tribeca Café on Rue Cler Dessert at Le Petit
Cler
Wednesday, June 11th
Petit dejeuner (breakfast) at Café Central Place de la Concorde,
site of the infamous guillotine during the French Revolution.
Now a 3,000-year-old Egyptian Obelisk sits in its place.
Tulleries Gardens Louvre, part 1- The Mona Lisa, Winged Victory,
Egyptian, Greek and Roman antiquities. Ride Segways as we tour
Paris Dinner at the Café du Marche
Thursday, June 12th
Take-out petit dejeuner along the Champs-Elysees Climb to the
top of Napoleon’s Arc de Triomphe, the largest triumphal arch in
the world. Shopping along the Champs-Elysées Lunch at Pomme de
Pain Conciergerie (Ancient prison where Marie Antoinette spent
her last hours) Notre-Dame Cathedral Climb the towers of
Notre-Dame Cathedral (250 stairs) Dinner at the Ebouilante Café
Friday, June 13th
Petit dejeuner at Café Central Walk a mile in the Parisian
Catacombs where the bones of 6 million people line the ancient
underground tunnels Orsay Museum- home to the best works of art
by Monet, Renoir, Pissarro, van Gogh and the other
Impressionists Explore the feudal Vincennes Chateau- the tallest
keep in Europe Louvre Museum, part II Dinner at l’Auberge Pot de
Terre (built in 1539)
Saturday, June 14th
Petit dejeuner at the Café Central Day trip to Louis XIV’s
Versailles Palace and Gardens by train (15 miles from Paris) See
the watershow at Versailles’ fountains (Some take the mini-train
and some bike around the gardens and grounds) Dinner at the Hard
Rock Café (35th Anniversary of the Paris HRC- concert by a
Rolling Stones cover band)
Sunday, June 15th
Petit dejeuner at the Café Central Worship @ the Scots Kirk
(Church of Scotland) Centre Pompidou Modern Art Museum Dinner at
the Ristorante Beaubourg on Pompidou Square; Dessert at an
Italian Gelateria Champs du Mars Climb/ride to the top of the
Eiffel Tower
Monday, June 16th
Petit dejeuner at Gare Montparnasse Day trip to Chartres by
train (57 miles from Paris) The Cathedral- the largest in
France- was completed in the 13th Century Meet Professor Miller
at noon for our tour Dinner at La Voute in Chartres Visit the
Sacré Coeur Basilica Dessert at Chez Eugene on Montmartre
Tuesday, June 17
Petit dejeuner at Café du Marché Les Invalides Museum
-Napoleon’s tomb, displays of knight’s armor, World War exhibits
Transfer from hotel to airport at noon for our 3:55 pm flight
home
