Pi,
a Greek letter, is the symbol for the ratio of the circumference
of a circle to its diameter. Pi = 3.1415926535... Pi Day is
celebrated by math enthusiasts around the world on March 14th.
Calvin's junior high math class
participated in the "Pi Day" celebration. They learned the
history of pi and even read a few limericks of pi. They found
their birthday's in pi and played some pi games, including
tossing pie plates to see who could get the closest to 3'1.4''
on a tape measure. They also watched videos of people reciting
as many digits of pi that they could memorize and then had their
own contest at the end of class. Of course the students and
their teacher, Mr. Schreuder, were eating all different types of
"pie" that students had brought in from home.
