There’s a new sound on the
campus—regimental calisthenics, crunching tackles, blowing
whistles, touchdown cheers . . . and with those sounds comes a
new excitement. Calvin Christian’s first ever football program
has been hard at work through two weeks of two-a-day practices
as they prepare for the upcoming season. Through the
extraordinary generosity of many, many donors, the school was
able to purchase new player equipment & uniforms, field
equipment, storage systems, and even a set of bleachers.
Volunteers have been working to prepare the field, assemble the
bleachers, coordinate equipment and so many other tasks large
and small. Enthusiasm is high as we all look forward to enjoying
a great first season.

The thirty-two man squad is led by
head coach Wally Zittle, who has coached locally at the small
school level for nearly ten years. Serving as his assistant
coach is Brad Jansen, who is a first year PE teacher with three
years of high school coaching experience in Michigan.
The team is eagerly looking forward
to seeing some game action. The varsity will lead off with a
three team scrimmage at Calvin Christian on Friday, August 24 at
4:00 pm. Meanwhile, the JV squad opens with a scrimmage on
Saturday, August 25, 10:00 am at La Jolla Country Day. The home
openers are the following week—JV vs. Bishop’s on Thursday while
the varsity squares off with Foothills Christian for a Friday
afternoon contest (4:00 pm).
