Combining the creative talents of
the entire Calvin Christian community, Hello, Dolly is truly a
top-notch production. With sets and costumes that rival those of
the big stages, the musical serves as an annual testimony to the
abundant creativity and dedication within the CCS community.
"Hello Dolly," which takes place
during the 1890's, tells the story of widow Dolly Levi, a
matchmaker who not only helps a number of couples get together,
but also finds a new husband for herself. Long-time Calvin
Christian musical director Vicki Van Essen directs the musical
comedy. Miss Van Essen’s previous shows have won rave reviews
from audiences throughout San Diego County.
All told, some 45 students take part
in the production. The title role is being played by Jenna
Steidl, an exuberant senior who brings strong acting skills with
her singing, as do three other student actors/singers,
Jacqueline Richerd, Colleen Huston and Briana Jackson. The male
lead is being played by senior Reuben Faber with underclassmen
Scott Huston, Niko Schatz and Mark Jasperse providing
outstanding supporting performances.
“This is an excellent opportunity to
see the next generation of singers and dancers in all their
glory. Some of the set pieces are over 40 feet long. No expense
has been spared in bringing this classic Broadway show to life.
I know everyone will have an excellent time at ‘Hello, Dolly,’”
Miss Van Essen commented.
Calvin Christian High School is
renowned in the area for its professional-style musical
productions. Past shows have included The King and I, The Wizard
of Oz and Cinderella.
