The Christmas Concert was held on December 11 in the Calvin
Christian gymnasium. But it didn’t look at all like a gymnasium.
The room was festively decorated for the Christmas season. All
who came out this evening were in for a treat.
The evening began by Faith Expression caroling some really fun
Christmas songs in the foyer. The bands provided the prelude for
the evening. The 5th, 6th, and 7th-12th grade bands performed a
variety of Christmas songs. Faith Expression then came into the
room with lighted candles and prepared us for the concert with
“Call to Advent”. Miss Van Essen opened with prayer. The 3rd –
5th grade students were on the risers ready to sing. They were
directed by Mrs. Compton. The Junior High Choir, the High School
Choir and Faith Expression joined the elementary students for a
beautiful medley of Christmas songs. What a treat!
Several of our talented musicians were featured in a special
way: Amanda Vos and Jacqueline Richerd both had solos during
Faith Expression numbers. Cellist, Tim Wang beautifully played
with “Star Carol”. Sarah Gordon, Chad Hammel, Tanya Vos, Kyle
Jasperse and Kevin Klicman helped to accompany “Jazz Gloria”
with their instruments. The 4th graders showed off their talents
on the recorders – they were really good! Three of our junior
high students, Kendra Berner, Rachel Brouwer and Tori Hoskins
signed along with “Peace, Peace”.
The concert ended with a beautiful rendition of “The Hallelujah
Chorus”. There was a wonderful opportunity to purchase baked
goods, which were made by many Calvin parents.
A special thank you to Miss Van Essen and to Mrs. Compton: You
are both very talented musicians and we are grateful to God that
you are using your talents at CCS! Thank you to all of those who
helped to make this concert a wonderful event as we seek to
glorify God during this Christmas season.
