Junior High
Calvin Chrisitian Junior High School
8th graders 2010-11

Calvin Christian Junior High offers a well-rounded and integrated curriculum including art, Bible, computer technology, language arts, math, music, physical education, science, social studies, and Spanish. A Christian worldview is incorporated into each subject. There are a broad range of programs designed to include opportunities and encourage participation by a large number of students. All 6th graders participate in choir. The rest of the junior high students may choose to be in choir and/or band class. A few electives are offered for those students not in choir or band. Recent electives offered have been Archaeology, Art, Geography, Leadership, and Pop Culture. An up-to-date computer classroom allows for whole classes to do online research and create media projects and reports.

Academic competitions take place each year. Students compete in the school wide Spelling Bee and Geography Bee, with the winner advancing to compete against students from other area junior high schools. A Knowledge Bowl team practices for months to compete against local junior high school teams.

Fine Arts Festival

The fine arts are highly valued at Calvin Christian, a reflection of the creative beauty of our God. In addition to a wide variety of arts opportunities in the curriculum, the school offers several options in the co-curricular program as well. These programs present another avenue to develop the skills, discipline and character that are consistent with a Biblical world and life view. In addition to choir and band, each spring students participate in the Fine Arts Festival. It is held every February and each student participates in one or more categories. This evening competition is the culmination of months of work by the students and teachers. Performance categories include creative writing, art, speeches, vocal solos and ensembles, and instrumental solos and ensembles. The top students in each category go on to perform in the regional competition in March.

Bible Projects:  Each year, junior high students have the opportunity to use the Fine Arts (such as music, painting, sculpting, and woodworking) to graphically, creatively demonstrate knowledge of scripture.  Biblical concepts can be better understood through interaction and visual aids that reconstruction, models, and the fine arts provide.  These projects help students to share their faith and knowledge of the Bible.  Many students choose Bible passages that are personal favorites or have special meaning to them as they live their Christian lives.  Bible projects allow students to be evaluated in areas where they have personal gifts.  Students are free to explore and create according to the the gifts and talents that God has given them.  See our slide show below for just a sampling of some of the projects.
