various days of the week, so stay tuned for
those announcements.
Career Day: Every
other year, Calvin Christian hosts a Career Day
for all high school students. On that day,
students attend their morning classes as usual,
but the afternoon provides them with an
opportunity to learn more about choosing a
career. Approximately eight members of our
community come on campus to tell students about
their careers and/or career fields: what you do,
how you get there, the skills and education you
need, the good and bad sides of these jobs, etc.
Students choose three of these career
information sessions to attend.
On this same day,
Calvin Christian’s juniors and seniors have the
opportunity to participate in a Career Shadow.
Instead of attending school and Career Day,
these students get to go “shadow” someone in a
career that interests them. They observe an
employee on the job for a day to learn more
about what he/she does on the job, what the
company or agency does, what education and
training is required for that career, and what
it takes to be successful in the world of work.
If you have any
questions about the Career Day or Career Shadow
programs, please contact Brian Duyst at the high
school.
Spiritual
Emphasis Week:
Spiritual Emphasis Week is a special time that
we set aside to encourage our high school
students to examine their spiritual walk in a
more direct way. We suspend regular
afternoon classes for a week to host a variety
of speakers and small group
discussions/activities. This is done to
challenge the students to grow in the knowledge
of what it means to be a Christian and to
respond with greater commitment to God in their
daily walk. We also concentrate on service
projects, setting aside one day for community
service.
