Here at Calvin, competitive athletics is a
critical tool for developing the discipline, character,
communication, and sportsmanship skills that are consistent with
a Christian worldview. While these skills are developed in the
athletic realm, they also transcend the realm of sports and help
equip Christian young people to be leaders and community members
beyond Calvin Christian high school.
Within our athletic program, we strive for
excellence because God calls us to do our very best to bring him
glory and honor. Clearly this applies to our competitive
athletic performance, but that does not supersede the call to
excel in the areas of sportsmanship and character as well.
There is a strong emphasis also on
participation in the sports program because God calls and equips
people with many different talents to contribute to the whole
body. We have a wide array of sports offerings, including at
least two choices for each gender in each season, to try to give
students with different abilities an opportunity to offer those
talents. Finally, we encourage our
athletes to be well rounded. While there is a place for some
specialization, we strongly encourage our student athletes to be
active in as many areas as they can while being faithful to
their commitments.
