Curriculum includes:
reading, spelling, writing, math, science,
social studies, music, art and physical
education .
Music
appreciation is encouraged through singing and
musical games. Students in grades 1-5 meet
regularly to sing together and learn new songs,
eventually preparing them for periodic school
concerts. All classes have two sessions
per week with a certified music teacher using
the Orff method. Instruments (recorders)
are introduced in 4th grade, and students are
given the option of joining Band in 5th grade.
Computer
instruction begins in 3rd grade.
A co-curricular
Spanish elective is now available to
elementary and junior high students who desire
to learn additional Spanish. The beginning
class for new students is offered every second
semester, while the advanced class is offered
during the first semester. Classes are
held after school twice a week. For more
information, please
email
Sue Wagenveld, the instructor.
Physical
Education classes take place twice a week
with a separate P.E. teacher. Each year
students are given the chance to test their
physical abilities in the Mini-Olympics.
8th graders run this full afternoon event, while
7th graders lead teams that have representation
from each grade level. Athletes compete in
such events as jump roping, the mini-marathon,
sit-ups, obstacle course, and broad jump.
T-shirts are awarded to the first place team,
and ribbons are given to the top five teams.
