Share A Few Things About Yourself
I was born and raised in northwestern Iowa. After graduating from Dordt College, I began my teaching career. I have 12 years of teaching experience in all kinds of settings: Christian schools, public schools, special education settings, general classroom teaching, substitute teaching, and even P.E.! I am also a church organist, pianist, choir director, and composer. I have been married to my husband James for 18 years and we have three children who attend Calvin. Music is both my profession and my hobby, so I spend much of each day involved in playing, writing, or thinking about music. In other moments, I enjoy walking, reading cooking magazines, and cheering for Minnesota's sports teams, even when they're not very good! I am excited to be teaching at Calvin.

How Do You Connect Faith & Learning In Your Classroom?
Making music is our unique privilege as children of the King! We sing, move, and play to praise our God, encourage our neighbor, express ourselves, and better understand our world. In the details of music, we find the same kind of order God has placed in all of creation. Seeing the beauty and harmony of music helps us understand the glory of our Creator. But, in music, we also find our own need. The great songs of our faith teach us to look outside ourselves, to our Savior Jesus Christ. Truly, music is a wonderful gift of God. As it says in Ps. 147:1 ""Praise the Lord. How good it is to sing praises to our God, how pleasant and fitting to praise him!"
