ARTS

In keeping with our philosophy of educating the whole child, we provide many opportunities for students to participate in the creative arts.  Music, band, and drama complement the classroom art instruction and are the major components of our fine arts program.

MUSIC

Beginning in kindergarten, all students attend music class twice a week.  In addition to learning music theory and information about types of music and famous composers, students learn songs for two major performances.  The students, under the direction of our experienced music teacher, Margaret Wahlen, share their musical talents at the Christmas and Spring Concerts.

BAND

Students have the opportunity to learn how to play a musical instrument beginning in 5th grade.  After selecting an instrument at the beginning of the year, students attend band practice three days a week with the high school music director, Vicki Van Essen.  Throughout the year, the band members perform in various concerts.

DRAMA

Students may also try out for acting roles in the Spring Concert.  With a wide range of parts to choose from, there is usually an open spot available for those who wish to grab a piece of center stage.

FINE ARTS FESTIVAL

The Fine Arts Festival is an event that celebrates all of the fine arts.  If desired, students can showcase their vocal and instrumental abilities.  Students choose a musical piece and perform, either solo or as part of a duet or ensemble, in front of a judge and audience.  The judging is done in such a way as to encourage the students and develop their confidence.  Students who achieve a high rating from the judges are selected to perform again at the regional Fine Arts Festival held at the Crystal Cathedral Academy.

In addition, students may enter artwork or creative essays for judging.  Those who enjoy acting can become part of the drama cast.  Others are welcome to recite poetry or other forms of narrative performance art.  Whatever your child's talent, there is a place for them in the Fine Arts Festival!
