CCHS Fall Sports - CIF Playoffs
The Crusaders faced the Rock Academy on Friday, November 20 and walked away with a 68-8 win! A big congratulations to the 2015 CIF D6 Champs!
The Lady Crusaders battled couragously against the Bishop Knights. Even though they weren't able to pull out a win, the team played hard and made a great showing in their first CIF D1 playoff game.
The Crusader football team joins the 8-man team format of the CIF San Diego Section, Division 6, this year. The small school trend is heading this way and we hope to see this division grow! Read more on this in the San Diego Union Tribune.
CCHS Junior, Jordan Thomsen, was interviewed for the UT PREP section recently. Thomsen, who is heading into his second year as a decathalete, particiapted in the USA Track & Field Hershey Championships earlier this summer. This fall, Jordan will join the Crusaders as a wide-receiver and defensive back. Read more in the San Diego Union Tribune.
The 2015 CIF San Diego Division 5 title belongs to the Calvin Christian High School Lady Crusaders! The team had a 9-0 win over top-seeded Calvary Christian at UC San Diego. Read more about the game at the San Diego Union Tribune site.
The 2015 San Diego CIF Division 5 Championship belongs to the Crusader Baseball team! The team played a great game at Cal State San Marcos against Calapatria and came out with a 7-2 win. Read more about this HERE.
The team had the great privelege of playing at Petco Park, the home of the San Diego Padres, on Saturday, April 18th. Only 2 teams in each CIF division of the San Diego Section were given this opportunity.
Track & Field
May 30 was a historic day for Calvin Track and Field. As one of the smallest schools in the county to field a complete track and field program, both the girls and boys sides placed in the top five in Division 2. After winning both Coastal League titles in the dual meets season, the Boys placed 4th and Girls 5th at CIF Finals. We had a record 15 athletes compete at CIF Finals. Highlights of the meet include sending TWO athletes to CIF State Meet for the first time. Sara Wagenveld is the first girl in the school’s history to qualify for State for Pole Vaulting and Brian Marcus is the first athlete on the track to qualify for State in 300 Low Hurdles.
Several Calvin athletes competed at some of the counties top Track and Field Invitational meets the weekend of May 1st and 2nd. Congratulations to Olivia Nash for winning the invite section of the triple jump at the Escondido Invitational Friday night, tieing her school record mark of 37’ 3”. Sara Wagenveld won the invite discus throw with a new school record throw of 124’ 0.5”. On the track, the boys 4x400 relay team, made up of Brian Marcus, John Bunnell, Mark Bakker, and Michael Senti, broke last year’s school record by placing second with a time of 3:29.91.
At the Frosh Soph Championships at Del Norte High School, Grace Price ran against the county’s top sophomore milers and re-broke her recent school record in the 1600 with 5:36.15. The freshmen girls 4x100 relay team of Kara Brouwer, Erica Jacobi, Alexandra Lund, and Toni Spielberger placed second in the open division with a time of 53.77.
Ryan Thomsen, CCHS Junior, finished in the top ten at the Arcadia Invitational in early April. He took 7th overall and was the top Junior in the meet. Ryan was also the top California finisher which is awarded the “California Greatest Athlete Award”. He scored 6,039 points over the two days with highlights of a 11.69 second 100 meter personal best time and his 13’5” pole vault mark. Ryan also had a personal best of 16.01 seconds in the 110 m high hurdles and a 5:03 in the last of the ten events, the 1500 meter run.
