May 30 was a historic day for Calvin Track and Field.  As one of the smallest schools in the county to field a complete track and field program, both the girls and boys sides placed in the top five in Division 2. After winning both Coastal League titles in the dual meets season, the Boys placed 4th and Girls 5th at CIF Finals. We had a record 15 athletes compete at CIF Finals. Highlights of the meet include sending TWO athletes to CIF State Meet for the first time.  Sara Wagenveld is the first girl in the school’s history to qualify for State for Pole Vaulting and Brian Marcus is the first athlete on the track to qualify for State in 300 Low Hurdles.

Several Calvin athletes competed at some of the counties top Track and Field Invitational meets the weekend of May 1st and 2nd.  Congratulations to Olivia Nash for winning the invite section of the triple jump at the Escondido Invitational Friday night, tieing her school record mark of 37’ 3”.  Sara Wagenveld won the invite discus throw with a new school record throw of 124’ 0.5”.  On the track, the boys 4x400 relay team, made up of Brian Marcus, John Bunnell, Mark Bakker, and Michael Senti, broke last year’s school record by placing second with a time of 3:29.91.

At the Frosh Soph Championships at Del Norte High School, Grace Price ran against the county’s top sophomore milers and re-broke her recent school record in the 1600 with 5:36.15.  The freshmen girls 4x100 relay team of Kara Brouwer, Erica Jacobi, Alexandra Lund, and Toni Spielberger placed second in the open division with a time of 53.77.
